Sport Parent Code of Conduct

Welcome to the Parsippany Baseball Club RedTails! We are excited to have your family join our community of players, coaches, and supporters. Our goal is to provide a positive, supportive environment where children can grow both as athletes and as individuals. To help ensure that all participants have the best experience possible, we ask that parents read, understand, and agree to this Sport Parent Code of Conduct before their child participates in our program.

We believe that sports are about more than just competition—they’re an opportunity to teach important life skills, build character, and, most importantly, have fun. By following these guidelines, we can create a space where everyone feels respected and supported.

Preamble

At the heart of everything we do at Parsippany Baseball Club RedTails are the values of Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Good Citizenship. These six pillars of character guide us in creating a positive environment for players, coaches, and families. When everyone works together, we can ensure that sports are an enriching experience for all.

I therefore agree to:

  1. Support my child's enjoyment of sports and understand that the main goal is fun, not pressure.

  2. Encourage my child’s participation in sports without forcing them, remembering that youth sports are about learning and growth.

  3. Inform the coach about any health concerns that may affect my child’s participation.

  4. Learn the rules of the game and the league’s policies so I can support my child and others effectively.

  5. Be a positive role model by showing respect and kindness to all players, coaches, officials, and spectators at every event.

  6. Promote sportsmanship cheering and remaining positive for your teammates and those around you.

  7. Avoid unsportsmanlike behavior, such as taunting, booing, or using inappropriate language. Instead, I’ll focus on positivity and encouragement.

  8. Encourage safe play and teach my child to respect the rules to ensure a fun and injury-free experience for everyone.

  9. Respect diversity and treat everyone with kindness, no matter their background, race, gender, or ability.

  10. Help my child understand that doing their best is more important than winning, and that the experience of playing is what truly matters.

  11. Praise effort and improvement, making sure my child feels good about their progress, no matter the outcome.

  12. Avoid criticizing or yelling at my child or other participants for mistakes or losses, and instead, emphasize learning and growth.

  13. Support skill development and the fun of practice, understanding that games and competition are a part of the process, not the entire focus.

  14. Place the emotional and physical well-being of all athletes first, above any personal desire for my child to win.

  15. Respect officials and coaches by refraining from discussing calls or coaching decisions during the game. I will speak with coaches at designated times.

  16. Refrain from coaching my child or other players during games or practices unless I am an official coach or manager for the team.

Sportsmanship Code of Conduct for Managers and Coaches

As a coach, I agree to:

  1. Be a positive role model by demonstrating the behaviors I wish to see in my players and other adults.

  2. Teach the rules of the game and ensure players understand the importance of following them, both for fairness and safety.

  3. Create a supportive, inclusive environment where every player feels valued and encouraged to grow, no matter their skill level.

  4. Foster respect for opponents, umpires, and fellow coaches, teaching players the importance of appreciating others and their efforts.

  5. Make the experience fun by emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth over winning at all costs.

  6. Celebrate effort and progress, offering praise and constructive feedback to help players improve.

  7. Encourage collaboration with parents to build a positive community that supports the development of every child.

  8. Teach players how to win and lose graciously, reminding them that both are opportunities to learn.

Sportsmanship Code of Conduct for Parents

As a parent, I agree to:

  1. Remember that the purpose of youth sports is fun and that my child’s participation should be an enjoyable experience.

  2. Learn the rules of the game and the policies of the Parsippany Baseball Club RedTails to help support my child’s development.

  3. Be a positive role model by encouraging sportsmanship, showing respect for everyone, and modeling good behavior at all times.

  4. Support all players, coaches, and officials by promoting kindness, respect, and good sportsmanship—cheering on both teams when they make great plays.

  5. Help my child learn the value of playing by the rules and give them the tools to resolve conflicts peacefully.

  6. Focus on skill development and the love of the game, not just the outcome of each game or season.

  7. Support my child through both victories and defeats, reinforcing that the journey is more important than the result.

  8. Respect coaches and officials by communicating with them in a positive, constructive manner at appropriate times.

  9. Let the coaches coach and refrain from offering instructions during games or practices unless I am an official coach or manager.

  10. Understand that there are no professional scouts in the stands—we are here to help our children learn, grow, and have fun!

Sportsmanship Code of Conduct for Players

As a player, I agree to:

  1. Attend practices and games and notify my coach if I’m unable to attend.

  2. Play by the rules and learn them so I can improve and help my team.

  3. Respect all decisions made by umpires, coaches, and officials without arguing.

  4. Work hard for myself and my team, always doing my best and encouraging my teammates to do the same.

  5. Stay calm when things don’t go as planned, and always act with respect toward others.

  6. Support my teammates and opponents, cheering for everyone when they make good plays.

  7. Congratulate opponents before and after the game, showing good sportsmanship no matter the outcome.

  8. Treat my coaches, teammates, opponents, and fans with respect, expecting the same in return.

  9. Encourage my parents to be involved because I value their support and involvement.

  10. Lead by example in showing good sportsmanship and encouraging others to do the same.

I agree to follow these guidelines to help make the Parsippany Baseball Club RedTails a welcoming, supportive, and fun environment for all players, coaches, and families.
